Do Any of the TBT3-UDV’s USB 3.0 Ports Offer Any Special Charging Capabilities? Can Any of the USB Ports Provide Power to Charge Devices When the Dock Is Not Connected to a Host Laptop?

Yes. Only the single front-mounted USB 3.0 port on the TBT3-UDV dock supports USB Battery Charging 1.2 (BC 1.2) for fast device charging up to 1.5A (7.5W). The rear USB ports supply standard USB 3.0 power, and none of the USB ports supply power or charge devices when the dock is disconnected from a host laptop.

How USB Charging Works on the TBT3-UDV

  • Front USB 3.0 Port: Supports the USB Battery Charging 1.2 (BC 1.2) standard, outputting up to 5V at 1.5A (7.5W) to charge connected mobile devices while the dock is connected to an active host laptop.
  • Rear USB 3.0 Ports: The four rear USB 3.0 ports supply standard USB power output at 5V and 900mA (4.5W), designed for data peripherals rather than fast charging.
  • Offline / Standalone Charging: The TBT3-UDV requires an active connection to a host system to power its USB downstream ports. When the host laptop is disconnected, powered off, or asleep, all USB ports stop supplying power.

Workaround for Offline Charging

To charge USB devices while your laptop is disconnected or powered off, plug those devices into a dedicated USB wall charger or a standalone power adapter.
