The UD-ULTC4K docking station can drive up to a maximum of three external displays using a combination of two different graphics technologies.
The docking station provides three labeled video output port groups, each offering the choice of HDMI or DisplayPort connectors. DISPLAY 1 ports are controlled directly by the computer's internal graphics controller, via USB Type-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode, or "Alt-Mode" for short. This enables the docking station to support HDMI version 2.0, or DisplayPort version 1.2 — up to 4K 60Hz resolution, or lower resolutions like 1080p up to 60Hz refresh rate.
The DISPLAY 2 and DISPLAY 3 ports are controlled by DisplayLink USB Graphics technology — a combination of the DisplayLink software on the computer and DisplayLink DL-6950 chipset in the docking station. Each port group can each support a single 4K 60Hz display, or lower resolutions like 1080p up to 60Hz refresh rate.
DisplayLink requires installing the DisplayLink drivers for Windows or DisplayLink Manager for macOS. Both are available from our DisplayLink Driver Download Page. Detailed macOS installation and configuration instructions are available by clicking on the INFO button.
Note — Not all computers with USB Type-C ports support USB Type-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode to enable the DISPLAY 1 outputs on this docking station. Most Desktop computers, and older notebooks do not support this feature.
