Certain Dell laptops with Intel Tiger Lake (11th Gen) processors have Display Stream Compression (DSC) disabled by default. This can limit the resolution and refresh rate you can output through docking stations which rely on USB-C Alt Mode or USB4/Thunderbolt.

Affected Laptop Models:

  • Latitude Series: 9520, 9420, 7x20, 7320, 5x21, 5x20, 3x20, 3320
  • Precision Series: 7760, 7560, 5760, 5560, 3561, 3560
  • XPS Series: 17, 15, 13, 13 2-in-1

Affected Docking Stations

  • USB-C Alt Mode Docks, such as the UD-MSTH2
  • USB4 Docks, such as the UD-4VPD
  • Thunderbolt docks, such as the TBT4-UDZ

Docks that use DisplayLink USB graphics are NOT affected by this.

How to Enable DSC:

Dell provides a detailed guide to help you enable DSC on these models. To enable Display Stream Compression, follow the step-by-step instructions in this Dell Support Article.
