The Plugable TBT-UDM is a Thunderbolt 4 docking station based on the Intel Goshen Ridge chipset. The dock’s display capabilities depend on the display output limitations of the connected host system.

Apple M-Series MacBooks

  • M4, M3 Pro/Max, M2 Pro/Max, and M1 Pro/Max MacBooks:
    • Support up to two external displays.
  • M1 and M2 base models (non-Pro/Max):
    • Support only one external display.
  • M3 base models:
    • Support two external displays only when the lid is closed.
    • When the lid is open, only one external display is supported.

(Note: Display support is limited by the MacBook model’s GPU/SoC, not by the dock.)

Dock Video Output Configuration

The TBT-UDM provides:

  • 2x HDMI video output ports
  • 1x downstream Thunderbolt 4 port, which can also output video when connected to a compatible display or USB-C/Thunderbolt video adapter.

The dock supports up to two total external displays. You can connect:

  • Two HDMI displays, or
  • One HDMI display + one display via the downstream Thunderbolt 4 port (using a USB-C or Thunderbolt display, or a USB-C video adapter).

Display Output Behavior

The dock allocates display bandwidth on a first-come, first-served basis. Once two displays are active, any additional connected displays will not output video.
