The Plugable UGA-4KDP is a USB graphics adapter based on DisplayLink technology. It lets you connect one DisplayPort monitor to a computer via USB, supporting displays up to 4K (3840x2160) at 30Hz.
Because the UGA-4KDP sends display data over USB and relies on the host computer's CPU and GPU, its performance and capabilities differ from a monitor connected directly to a native HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C Alt Mode output.

Can I Daisy-Chain Monitors From the UGA-4KDP?
No. The UGA-4KDP supports one monitor per adapter and does not support DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST) daisy-chaining.
To add multiple monitors using the UGA-4KDP, one adapter is required for each additional display.
Plugable currently recommends:
- Up to six UGA-4KDP adapters on Windows
- Up to six UGA-4KDP adapters on ChromeOS
- Up to four UGA-4KDP adapters on macOS
Actual performance and the number of displays you can use reliably depend on the computer's CPU, GPU, USB bandwidth, operating system, display resolution, and the type of content being shown.

What Resolutions and Refresh Rates Does the UGA-4KDP Support?
The UGA-4KDP supports a single DisplayPort monitor at resolutions up to 3840x2160 at 30Hz.
At lower resolutions, it supports higher refresh rates. For example, 2560x1440 and lower resolutions can operate at up to 60Hz.
The UGA-4KDP does not support 4K at 60Hz.
Why Does Protected Video Show a Black Screen?
The UGA-4KDP uses DisplayLink technology and does not support HDCP-protected video playback through the DisplayLink-connected monitor.
Protected content may show a black screen, play audio without video, display an error, or play at a lower-than-expected resolution.
This can affect protected content from services and applications such as:
- Netflix
- Hulu
- Prime Video
- Disney+
- Apple TV
- YouTube TV
- HDCP-protected Blu-ray content
Availability and behaviour can vary depending on the service, application, browser, operating system, and content.
Most non-protected content, such as general web video and locally stored non-protected video files, can typically be displayed normally.

Is the UGA-4KDP Recommended for Gaming or Video Editing?
No. The UGA-4KDP is designed primarily for productivity applications such as web browsing, office applications, email, spreadsheets, and other relatively static desktop content.
DisplayLink technology sends display data over USB, which introduces additional processing and bandwidth requirements compared with a monitor connected directly to the computer's graphics processor.
For this reason, the UGA-4KDP is not recommended for:
- Gaming
- Professional video editing
- 3D rendering
- Other graphics-intensive or latency-sensitive applications
For these workloads, connect the display directly to a native HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C Alt Mode, or Thunderbolt video output whenever possible.
Why Does Performance Decrease When Using Multiple Adapters?
Each additional DisplayLink-connected display requires additional USB bandwidth and host system resources. As you add more adapters and displays, performance may decrease depending on the computer and the content being displayed.
Possible symptoms include:
- Mouse or keyboard lag
- Stuttering video
- Slow display updates
- Flickering or disconnected displays
- Higher CPU or GPU utilization
If performance decreases when using multiple UGA-4KDP adapters:
- Connect adapters to different USB 3.x ports on the computer when possible.
- Avoid placing several high-bandwidth USB devices on the same USB hub or USB controller.
- If a hub is required, use a powered USB 3.x hub.
- Test the adapters one at a time, then add displays individually to determine when performance begins to decrease.
- Reduce the resolution or amount of dynamic content displayed when troubleshooting performance problems.

What Do I Need to Know About Using the UGA-4KDP on macOS?
The DisplayLink Manager application must be installed and running for the UGA-4KDP to provide video output on macOS.
macOS also requires DisplayLink Manager permission to access the screen so it can generate the image shown on the DisplayLink-connected monitor.
On current versions of macOS:
- Open System Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Select Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Confirm that DisplayLink Manager is enabled.
- If prompted, select Quit & Reopen so the permission change can take effect.
On some older versions of macOS, this setting may be named Screen Recording.

What Should I Check if the UGA-4KDP Is Not Working?
If the display is blank, flickering, intermittently disconnecting, or the adapter is not being detected, check the following:
- Confirm that the monitor is powered on and set to the correct DisplayPort input.
- Use a direct, good-quality DisplayPort cable between the UGA-4KDP and the monitor.
- Connect the UGA-4KDP to a USB 3.x port for best performance.
- If converting the DisplayPort output to HDMI, use an active DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter. A passive adapter or cable is not supported for this conversion.
- Confirm that the current DisplayLink software is installed and running.
- If multiple adapters are connected, test with one UGA-4KDP at a time.
