Summary
If your Mac detects the TBT3-UDV's Ethernet device in System Information but no working wired connection appears in Network settings, macOS may not have created a network service for the dock. You can check for an existing service and add one if needed.
Applicable To
Plugable TBT3-UDV docking stations connected to a Mac where the dock's Ethernet device appears in System Information.
Before You Begin
- Connect the TBT3-UDV to your Mac and connect an Ethernet cable from the dock to an active router, switch, or network port. Leave both connected while checking Network settings.
- Check or Add the Ethernet Service
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings > Network.
- Look for an Ethernet service associated with the dock. If one is already listed, select it and check its connection status. Do not create a duplicate service.
- If no service for the dock is listed, click the Action menu in Network settings and choose Add Service.
- Open the Interface menu and select the Ethernet interface associated with the TBT3-UDV. The name may vary by Mac and macOS version; older versions may show Thunderbolt Ethernet Slot 1.
- Enter a service name, or keep the suggested name, and click Create.
- Check the new service's status in Network settings and allow a moment for the connection to establish.
If the Connection Still Does Not Work
- Confirm that the new service corresponds to the dock's Ethernet interface and that the Ethernet cable and network port work with another device.
- If the service shows a connection but cannot access your network, check its TCP/IP settings with your network administrator. Some networks require settings other than automatic configuration.
- If the dock's Ethernet interface is not available in the Add Service list, contact Plugable Support for further investigation.
