Are you seeing a message about your “Display connection might be limited” when you connect your USB-C dock or video adapter to your laptop?
This message can occur for a few different reasons with any USB-C dock or video adapter that relies on USB-C native video (called “USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode”). Please see the items below to troubleshoot why this might be occurring with your device.
- The USB-C port on the laptop itself does not support video out of its USB-C port. In other words, the USB-C port on the laptop supports data transfer only. Please try another USB-C port on the system, or check your laptop specifications, user manual, or reach out to the manufacturer to confirm that the USB-C port on the laptop is capable of video.
- The USB-C cable being used to connect the USB-C device to the laptop is not a compatible cable, and may support data transfer/charging only (no video support). Please use the original USB-C cable that came with your device.
- There is a some kind of USB-C adapter in between the laptop and and USB-C device, and this adapter does not support USB-C video. Please remove the adapter and try connecting the device directly to the system.
