Did I get the wrong version of the UD-3900PDZ? 60W vs. 100W charging

In January 2025, Plugable introduced an updated version of the UD-3900PDZ docking station that supports up to 100W of USB-C Power Delivery (PD) to the host computer. Previously, the dock provided up to 60W.

In this update the overall product design and model number remained the same, with only the dock's Power Delivery capabilities upgraded.

Why did I receive a dock labeled 60W?

When the 100W version was introduced, some existing 60W inventory was still in circulation. While our listings reflect the new version, it's possible to receive a 60W unit if older stock had not yet sold through at the time of your order.

We understand how this might be frustrating - especially if you were expecting the newer 100W version. If you received a unit labeled 60W but require 100W PD for your setup, please contact our support team with your order information. We’re happy to work with you and see what options may be available.

What’s different between the two versions?

The only functional difference is charging power:

  • Original version: Delivers up to 60W to the host laptop
  • Updated version (Jan 2025 and later): Delivers up to 100W

All other features, ports, and performance remain the same. No drivers or setup changes are needed to use the updated version - your laptop will automatically negotiate the correct power level.

How do I tell which version I have?

Check the label of the USB-C host port on the back of the dock:

  • “60W” = original version
    UD-3900PDZ 60W Host Port
  • “100W” = updated version with 100W charging
    UD-3900PDZ 100W Host Port

The product packaging also reflects the dock version - the box says either "With 60W Power Delivery" or "With 100W Power Delivery" depending on which version you receive.
