The UD-3900C4 generally does not require the firmware to be updated. However, if you are experiencing specific video-related issues via the HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 (Alt Mode) ports and have already tried standard troubleshooting steps (such as operating system, device driver, and UEFI / firmware updates to the host system), updating to the latest dock firmware may help.
Examples of possible video-related issues that updating to the new firmware may help with:
- Display instability such as intermittent flickering/flashing/black screen via HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 (Alt Mode MST ports)
- Display not detected after waking from sleep (or is detected but no image is displayed) via HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 (Alt Mode MST ports)
Note: Updating the dock firmware will not help with video issues via HDMI 1 or 2 (DisplayLink USB graphics-based ports) or other non-video related issues. If you are experiencing other problems, please contact us at support@plugable.com, and we'll be happy to assist.
To perform the firmware update, you’ll need access to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 system equipped with a USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, 4, 5, or USB4 port. (Please note: The host USB-C ports must support DisplayPort Alt Mode for the update process to work.)
The firmware update cannot be performed on a Mac system or a Linux system. If you do not have access to a compatible Windows system to perform the firmware update, please get in touch with us for assistance.
