Some iPhone and iPad users may find that sound does not automatically play through the Plugable UDS-7IN1’s 3.5 mm audio jack when streaming with AirPlay. This article walks through how to confirm the dock is detected and how to properly select the UDS-7IN1’s built-in USB audio output.

1. Confirm that the USB Audio Device is Detected

  1. Connect your UDS-7IN1 dock to your iPhone or iPad using the provided USB-C cable
  2. On your iPad, open Settings → Sound & Haptics.
  3. Scroll down and tap Input/Output (or simply Audio on some iOS/iPadOS versions).
  4. Look for USB PnP Audio Device in the list of available audio devices.
    1. If USB PnP Audio Device appears, select it. This confirms that iOS/iPadOS recognizes the dock’s audio codec.
    2. If it does not appear:
    3. Disconnect and reconnect the dock’s USB-C cable.
    4. Try the alternate USB-C port on your iPad if one is available.
    5. Ensure the dock is connected directly to the iPad or iPhone (not through another hub or adapter).

2. Test Direct Audio Playback

Once USB PnP Audio Device is selected:

  1. Connect headphones or external speakers to the dock’s 3.5 mm audio jack.
  2. Open a media app such as Music, YouTube, or Spotify and begin playback.
  3. Confirm that audio is heard through your connected speakers or headphones.
    1. If you hear sound, the dock’s audio output is working correctly.
    2. If you do not hear sound, disconnect and reconnect the dock, then repeat the test before continuing.

3. Test with AirPlay

After confirming that direct audio playback works:

  1. Begin casting to your AirPlay device.
  2. Once AirPlay is active, you should see the AirPlay icon appear at the top of your screen.
  3. Tap the AirPlay icon to view available audio devices.
  4. From the list, select USB PnP Audio Device.

This routes audio output through the 3.5 mm jack on your UDS-7IN1 while AirPlay remains active.

4. If Audio Still Does Not Output

If you do not see USB PnP Audio Device during AirPlay playback, or if selecting it does not produce sound:

Restart your iPhone or iPad and reconnect the dock.

Test AirPlay again while no Bluetooth audio devices are paired, as iOS may prioritize wireless audio outputs.

Confirm your iOS/iPadOS is updated to the latest version.
