Over the life of the UD-3900 model docking station there has been one substantive change to the product design in terms of the types of video outputs available. As a result, there are two different versions of the UD-3900.

Version 1 - Legacy UD-3900

The UD-3900 docking station model was originally launched in 2013. The original version of the UD-3900 has one DVI video output port and one HDMI video output port.  The original version is no longer available for purchase from Plugable.

Version 2 - Current UD-3900

In February of 2025, Plugable introduced a new version of the UD-3900 that changed the configuration. The new version of the UD-3900 has two HDMI video outputs. The DVI video output has been removed. Only this newer version is currently available to purchase from Plugable.

How To Identify Which Version You Have

You can identify which version of the UD-3900 you have by looking at the video output ports located on the back of the dock, and we have provided photographic examples of both types at the bottom of this knowledge base article. If you see a white DVI port + a HDMI port, you have the legacy version. If you see 2x HDMI ports, you have the current version.

You can also determine which version you have by reviewing the serial number printed on the barcode label located on the bottom of the dock.  Units that start with a serial number of ‘4334’ or higher are the new version of the UD-3900 with two HDMI video outputs.

Units with a lower serial number or one that follows a different convention (such as D17-xxxxxxxx, where ‘x’ is a number) are the legacy version with one DVI and one HDMI output.
