Over the life of the UD-ULTC4K docking station there has been one substantive change to the product design. This change affected the types of video outputs available, the amount of USB-C Power Delivery the dock can provide to a host computer, and the peripheral port selection. As a result, there are two different versions of the UD-ULTC4K.

Version 1 - Original UD-ULTC4K

The UD-ULTCDL docking station model was originally launched in 2017. The original version of the UD-ULTC4K has one HDMI video output port and two DisplayPort video output ports, four 5Gbps USB 3.0 ports, one 5Gbps USB-C port, a wired Gigabit Ethernet port, and two 3.5mm analog audio jacks for input and output devices. It is capable of providing up to 60W of charging to the host computer via USB-C Power Delivery. The original version is no longer available for purchase from Plugable.

Version 2 - Current UD-ULTC4K

In June of 2022, Plugable introduced a new version of the UD-ULTC4K that made several key changes. The new version of the UD-ULTC4K has three video outputs groups, each offering a choice of HDMI or DisplayPort connector. It also features four 5Gbps USB 3.0 ports, one 5Gbps USB-C port with 20W PD charging, an SD card reader, a wired Gigabit Ethernet port, and two 3.5mm analog audio jacks for input and output devices. It is capable of providing up to 100W to charge the host computer via USB-C Power Delivery. Only this newer version is currently available to purchase from Plugable.

How To Identify Which Version You Have

You can identify which version of the UD-ULTC4K you have by looking at the video output ports located on the back of the dock. Examples of each version of the dock are visible in the sections outlining the specifications of each version of the dock above. If you see one HDMI port and 2x DisplayPort ports you have the legacy version. If you see 3 groups of HDMI and DisplayPort ports, you have the current version.
